What Ever Happened to Baby Chelsea
Here's some communication between me and you know... LOL
Question
Pariot locked the thread once and then considered the fact that it was the only place that was truly bi-partisan. Why this sudden shift in thinking? Just because some posters may not understand it until they peruse it is not a reason to shut it down. We have welcomed every single person to come and enjoy the feelings of comradery that the thread has been able to provide during a very heated election. So, why? And, why now?
Re: Question
The majority of the thread was irrelevant to the City Hall - Election 2008 forum and in violation of forum rules/policies. Discussions not related to the upcoming election can take place on the Coffee Shop - General Discussion forum.
Re: Question
But you saw Patriot's post within the thread, correct? We had permission from an Admin.I just don't understand how things could be different today than they were 2 months, or 4 months ago.
Re: Question
That was Patriot's decision at that time. This is now some time later and it is my decision. The thread had veered to a point where it had absolutely nothing to do with the election.
Re: Question
Ok, but could you maybe have brought the subject up with us instead of just shutting it down? You can understand why there are some pretty upset posters right now, right? I mean just a little while ago we were the headline thread because even Wonder_Woman saw the effect that the thread had and the value it added to City Hall.I completely understand that you're the new law in town but it's a cold hard fact that all of the core posters in the Chelsea Thread had varying opinions and political views but we all got along outside the thread. It was like the Welcome Thread in the Coffee Shop.
Re: Question
The thread had no real direction in the first place, so a reminder to stay on topic would have served little purpose. The thread will not be returning. Please observe the Forum Guidelines going forward. Thank you.
So, you can see we're fighting an uphill battle...
Do we Soldier On, or let it die?

I can understand why the Mods are clamping down on the Forum in general. The new disclaimer at the top of the page indicates their frustration with trolls. BUT, Chelsea has a long and illustrious history of non-partisan communication. I can't believe they shut it down because of a few complaints.
It really doesn't sound like they are willing to negotiate, but if all of us regulars petitioned them, maybe they would listen. I have not made any appeals, because I have been in a state of shock and denial.
Well...needless to say I'm a bit hacked about it being taken down with no warning. There was quite a bit of stuff in that thread that was worthwhile, even if it didn't have anything to do the this circus called the election. There was an awful lot of creativity lost. I've resisted the temptation to just go berserk on the Forum...just start posting nonsense and silliness. I'd be like gostown on crack,LOL...
There's only a week left or so, and to be honest, it's going to be hard to find any kind of discussion worth taking part in. All the bases have been covered, I think. I sure would like to get in a few parting shots before they shut it down, though...I'll think about it...
I am still corresponding with the main dude.
If anyone is tight with W_W give her a shout... I think I have the Scarlett T branded on my chest with her.
On a side note: any sign of GV?
I think the way to approach this is by appeal to Crono's morality.
Crono IMO sees the forum in terms of post and reply, he sees no community nor does he see people with desire and feeling behind each post.
Explain that many call the forum home. Explain the personal investment. Compare the forum to a city with many long term residents. Define him as mayor of that city.
I was going to post the following but thought it unfinished, but I think it explains my above point. Pardon the rambling nature, I was a bit angry when I wrote it.
Post in part: start paste
On a personal note.
Knowing that this thread is going to be locked let me reel off a complaint. Crono, you don’t own this forum, you just police it. Many of us live in it, it is our community and we are invested. We, one post at a time help create this community, and that fact begs the question, “Where were you when the page was blank?” so what gives you the moral right to eliminate all of our past thought, work and idea. You didn’t have a hand in its creation how can you destroy it with out comment? Real people live here; treat us with respect and compassion, just as you would a flesh and bones neighbor.
The Chelsea thread was a stream of our conscious thought, it was us and by unilaterally removing it you said “you don’t matter”; that’s a bitter pill Crono.
Many of us are here because we have no place else to go. Be it a mental issue or a physical one that causes us to seek this place. The reasons are varied, but universally there is a real issue behind each as I have found through PM with other members. Think about it Crono, to post 4,000 replies in as many months takes a great deal of time, in fact it takes the majority of free time. Did you ever ask yourself, “who are these people and how do they have the time.”
No offence Crono, just please think on a human level. We are not just posts, we are people. You may ban me for the above comment, but as administrator, you are open to honest critique IMO take it in that spirit.
end paste
Cheers
Labour
Labour, that's awesome. I think you should send it in a PM for sure.
I did a bad thing by accident. I had messaged Crono about the deletion, and got the same lame responses. WW, doesn't seem to have any pull anymore and didn't seem to really know why it had been deleted. She suggested we start a new thread. I proceeded to type out a heartfelt reply (even reminded her about coming in when the street lights came on). I also included some not so nice things about Crono. Somehow, and I swear on the real Pixel that I don't know how the message got sent to Crono, instead of WW. To say the least, he was a bit miffed, because I basically accused him of having an agenda against those of the Chelsea thread. I did send an apology, but also still restated we deserved better than absolute deletion. Haven't heard back from him.
Lord, I feel like such a maroon.
PS,
Labour, as usual, that is a great letter. I say send it.
I don't think they'll let us restart...but I can tell you that it's taken much of the charm that still remained away from City Hall. I don't see much reason to visit anymore.
Seems more threads have been not locked but deleted.
I don't mind the lock, but erasure bothers me. Any one else?
Cheers

There is hardly anything worth replying to on the Forum. I think they've deleted Pat's ARRRRGGGHH thread, and I don't know how long they will tolerate GV's "I miss Chelsea and Sarah" thread. I can't beleive the mods just deleted Chelsea without locking it or giving any kind of warning. I was prepared to go cold turkey on November 5th, but the early ejection was really rude! Oh well, now I spend a lot less time on the Forum.
Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
A tale of an absurd thread
That spoke of things like Chaplin Kirk
And horses that were dead.
The focus was on Chelsea Clinton,
Our goddess brave and pure.
And what she had to say that day
About some bull manure, some real bull manure.
The posting started getting weird,
And strange ideas were tossed,
If not for the courage of the insane few
The thread it would be lost, the thread it would be lost.
The thread set forth to tell the truth of Chelsea's terse reply
With Dr. Doom
And kittens too,
The Barbie shrimp, and the like,
The squirrel army
Obamacite and hot coffee,
Here on The Sweet Chelsea Thread!
Saved from the ashes
awww, nostalgia...!!
I've got another bone to pick with the Mod Nazi...the other day on the New Chelsea Thread in the CS, somebody came along and left a short nasty about it not making sense and that we'd probably wind up entertaining ourselves...so I wrote out a pretty even handed description of what the original was about, in the hopes that other people would get a clue as to what we're all about...that fucker went ahead and deleted it as well. I guess we can't even talk about the old thread, or the fact that it was deleted...I'm surprised Bisquit's little ode hasn't been shit-canned...
I smell attorneys, do you?
The AM message on the forum masthead says the forum will be closed at 12pm all urls will no longer function and posts will be unattainable save what you want now.
I really don't understand removing the ability to search archives, on a personal level I regularly search my past posts to frame a new one. I guess Comcast sees some liability. My guess is with the vituperate nature of many posts that went unmoderated. It could I guess be argued that some harm was caused if say a member did some harm to self or others.
Eliminating the evidence prior to complaint sounds like the game plan here.
I think though, It is arguably our work and a future suit could be brought that claimed damage for deletion for other than technical reason. I won't be bringing any such suit but it is an interesting concept on who really owns the content.
Cheers
Labour
Hmmm...Labour brings up an interesting point, but maybe the issue isn't with Comcast, but with Lithium. I haven't done much research on Lithium, might do a little browsing and see if there's a contact there...
One of the things that occurred to me this morning in the frantic attempts to save the thread somehow was the sheer size of the thing. John's claim that he got the whole thing in just 1.1MB just didn't make sense to me, but I'm not an expert. It would seem to me that you'd need a pretty big data transfer application to send it to anyone, like Messenger...
I'm also curious as to why when it was unlocked there were so many posts missing, and which ones were missing. I tried to locate some of my better posts, to save and repost somewhere, but I ran out of time...more later..
